Our Learning Program

Family stays supported with tutoring to keep learning on track

Why family stays

When a child is unwell, school can quickly fall away. Lessons are missed, routines disappear, and confidence can fade. For families and kids already carrying so much, this can be another heavy worry. The Ronald McDonald House Learning Program helps children re-connect to learning and a sense of normal life. Families can focus on their child’s care, knowing learning will be supported.

How family stays

The Ronald McDonald House Learning Program supports over 1,600 students on any given week with one‑to‑one tutoring, helping kids catch up on missed education, stay engaged and build confidence, making the return to school easier.

Ronald McDonald Learning Program

Our free Learning Program supports over 1,620 students each week, helping them catch up on missed education and making the return to school less stressful. Ill or injured children and their siblings have access and most children will receive up to four terms of one-on-one tuition with a qualified teacher, plus an educational assessment, speech, or occupational therapy if needed.

Professional Learning for Teachers

Helping a student transition back to school after illness or injury can be challenging for teaching staff. EDMed, our free professional development program, provides teachers with strategies to support these students. Delivered face-to-face or online, the two-hour course equips educators with practical tools to ensure a smooth reintegration into the classroom.

Tutor with Us

The Ronald McDonald Learning Program offers teachers an opportunity to help ill or injured children catch up on their missed education. Teachers are paid hourly to tutor students in their school or community. Each student receives up to 40 weeks of tutoring, usually conducted for an hour each week over four school terms.

Our Charlie Bell Scholarship

Childhood illness or injury can make life stand still. Making any progress – whether it be in your education or career – can feel almost impossible. That’s why our Scholarship program exists. By awarding one-off grants of up to $5,000 to deserving young people, we’re giving them the chance to get their schooling or career back on track. Whether the money goes towards university fees, apprenticeship tools, books or supplies, RMHC is there to help them succeed.

Make a Difference for Families & Children

Parents don’t know when their child will need medical help. But they should know they can always access the care they need. And with your help, we can strive to support them all throughout their journey.
